Parkhurst House

rear elevation

This end of terrace house, was added in the 1980's as a Mock Victorian to match the neighbour's house.  The site was more narrow than however, which meant the front door was via the side passageway and the kitchen outrigger was narrow, thin and with three exposed walls.

The client was looking for a ground floor that reflected the size of the rest of the five bedroom property and upgraded environmentally.  By adding a side extension that was also the circulation hallway to the kitchen, this allowed for a generous living room, a study space, utility room and a new enlarged kitchen, diner and lounge area to the rear.

The rear extension was extended back 3 metres and infilled the other side of the outrigger too.  The house house had new double glazed windows, insulation, solar panels, car charging point, underfloor heating.  The new front porch and rear extension were clad with the very durable charred timber cladding inspired from Japan.  Internally exposed brickwork, plenty of natural light has made the house feel totally renewed, warm and connected to the environment through the changing daylight and garden.
