The Alex Hall Relaxation room was designed as a sensual room for relaxation.  This was to provide a calming, multi-sensory and versatile space for patients, friends and relatives to relax before and after tests and treatment.  The room is to function both during the day and at night for in-patients of all ages to retreat, communicate, use the internet or watch films.

Situated within an existing waiting room within The Christie Hospital NHS Trust, a series of organic shaped screens and suspended ceiling lighting subdivided the area into semi private, intimate zones.  At night the colour changing lights can be user controlled.  There is a strong connection to the garden outside.  All materials used in the construction are eco friendly - recycled cork rubber flooring, eco paints, recycled plastic decking, led lighting.  Sofas supplied by others.

The landscaping of the garden, which forms part of the hospital entrance, will use sculptural features and planting to encourage walking and sitting in a relaxed environment.  (ongoing)
